This guide will look at transferring funds from one client to another, also known as an Inter-client Transfer.
In this guide we will look at using the Inter-client transaction to move money from one client ledger to another. A typical example in conveyancing is when the proceeds of your client’s sale will go towards their onward purchase.
There are two places in Hoowla where this can be done, in the Case and in the Person card. Click on the green text below to jump to that section:

How to complete an Inter-client transfer in Hoowla within a Case
Click the Cases link next to your name.
In the Control Panel select Client Ledger
Click the Inter-Client button
You will the be presented with the Create Transaction screen as can be seen below
There are 6 main areas you should focus on in this form
- Current Client Balance for the case – this will display the full balance of the case
- From Client – this shows the client from whom the money will be deducted. If the client is involved with more than one case use the drop down to select the correct case.
- To Client – use the text field to search for the person to send a payment. If they are involved with more than one case use the drop down to select the correct case.
- Description – use the text field to describe the nature of the transfer.
- Transaction Value – enter the amount you wish to transfer.
- Date of Transaction – enter the date you wish the transfer to be sent (Note: the transaction date must be newer than the last successful reconciliation date for the account).
When you are happy with the details submitted on the form press Save.
You can then see the transferred amount on the other client’s ledger:
How to complete an Inter-client transfer in Hoowla from the Person Card
Click the People link next to your name
Select the person from the people list. If they are not in the initial list (which shows people without a quote), click ‘Company Wide’, or use the search box. Click their name or the ‘View’ button.
Select Client Ledger as indicated below
Click the Inter-Client button
You will the be presented with the Create Transaction screen as can be seen below
